The Russian Federation’s ambassador to Chisinau has been summoned and handed a note of protest following the unauthorized entry of five Russian drones and missiles into the Republic of Moldova’s airspace, which exploded near settlements in four districts, Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlights the gravity of the incident, which endangered the lives and safety of citizens and caused fires and material damage. The Ministry demands that the Russian Federation respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and prevent the recurrence of such incidents.” Moldovan President Maia Sandu condemned Russia’s morning attack on Ukraine: “Moscow is endangering lives across Europe, and it must be stopped. Its war is dangerously reaching Moldova. Five Russian aerial assets—including missiles and drones—violated our airspace and exploded on our territory.” Meanwhile, Moldova’s Ministry of Defense reported that, based on an analysis of data regarding airspace incursions, an additional unauthorized flight was detected alongside the five aircraft—three missiles and two drones—that exploded on the ground: “In total, today, October 3, amidst the Russian Federation’s massive attacks on Ukraine, the National Army’s surveillance systems recorded six unauthorized flights.”
